Allister Murdoch MBACP

My Background.

I was born in Glasgow and decided to move to London in 1989 to continue my career in administration.

In 1997 I decided on  a career change and I  combined  my training as a psychotherapist with a career in IT and publishing.

I returned to Scotland in 2007 and set up this practice.

My Beliefs 

I belief that both our physical and emotional experiences can be shaped through the messages we have taken on board.

As we continue our life, these messages can inhibit us. Through my own therapy I have looked at the messages that I had learned and inhibited myself with.  I decided that I did not want to continue living with these messages and explored the possibilites of changing them.

For me this has been a gradual process, in which I have challenged my learned beliefs and have chosen to take responsibility for my own life. Making the choices, as I felt able, has given me the life that I wanted.

I now feel able to live a more compassionate, fuller and open life than before.

I am interested in working with individual adults who want to look at their current behavioural patterns and at the choices available to them in order to lead a fulfilling life.

I believe that we can all learn to appreciate our differences as individuals in this world. We can live without fear,shame, guilt and anger that we may have taken on board around many different issues in our lives.

Training.

I gained my Certificate in Counselling from Birkbeck College (UCL) in 1997.

I completed a One Year Certificate In Psychotherapy in 2003 at Spectrum in London, a centre for Humanistic Psychology. I completed there Post Graduate course in 2005.

I am committed to ongoing personal and professional development and supervision.

I was trained at both Cruse (Bereavement) and Trinity Hospice, where I did voluntary work.

After returning to Scotland, I trained at Safe Space in Dunfermline, where I provided voluntary counselling for survivors of childhood sexual abuse for two years.
